The McLean Community Center (MCC) has activities for the entire family. Original, high quality theatrical productions, professional classical music presentations, and art exhibits displaying works by local artists, as well as the Washington metro area, are available year round. Community organizations are a part of McLean's small-town appeal, allowing residents and visitors the experience of area cultural opportunities. MCC offers a continuing program of activities for adults and children, including a wide range of classes, lectures, study tours, camps, art exhibits, theatre performances, and specialty shows. The MCC also operates a teen program at the Old Firehouse in downtown McLean. Popular events include McLean Day in Lewinsville Park and MPA Artfest.
Art classes are presented by the Corcoran College of Art and Design and the McLean Project for the Arts (MPA). Travel Tours give educational glimpses of our great nation. In addition, many local music, drama and arts groups utilize the MCC facilities including The McLean Symphony, The McLean Orchestra, The McLean Choral Society, World Children's Choir, McLean Commuity Players, Emerson Gallery at the McLean Project for the Arts, Great Falls Art Center, Alden Theatre, Interact Theatre Company, Abbot Gallery and of course, the McLean Project for the Arts.
The McLean Community Center was built and is currently funded by residents of Greater McLean for their use through a real estate tax surcharge, the result of a 1970 bond referendum (Small District 1A-Dranesville). An eleven-member Governing Board, elected by citizens of this tax district and appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, oversees the Center's budget and operation. For more information on upcoming special events, registration for classes, gallery exhibits, activities for children or rental of the Old Firehouse Teen Center, please contact the McLean Community Center.
