Fairfax County has an elected Board of Supervisors consisting of nine members elected by district, plus a chairman elected at-large. All voters in the county may vote for the chairman. Board members are elected for four-year terms. The Board establishes county government policy, passes resolutions and ordinances, approves the budget, sets local tax rates, approves land use plans and makes appointments to various positions.

New tool for tracking construction plans, inspections and permits; view, schedule or modify an inspection; file a complaint; check status of site or grading plans; estimate cost of a permit. FIDO is available at the e-services website above.

Community Emergency Alert Network (CEAN)

Fairfax County uses the Community Emergency Alert Network to deliver important emergency alerts, notifications and updates during a major crisis or emergency. Messages will be delivered to all devices you register; e-mail account, cell phone, text pager, satellite phone, wireless PDA, etc. When an incident or emergency occurs, authorized senders will notify you using this alert network. The Consumer Protection Division investigates and mediates consumer complaints and tenant-landlord disputes, and provides arbitration when needed. The division also provides a complaint history on county businesses. The division issues licenses for certain business activities, intervenes in utility rate cases, regulates the taxi industry, and provides assistance to homeowners associations. Division staff supports the Consumer Protection Commission, Tenant Landlord Commission, and the Towing Advisory Board.
