Adding spices to meals is a simple way to add flavor and variety to your meals, not to mention a heap of nutrition benefits! If you have left over herbs or spices from Thanksgiving or simply want to spice up your next meal use some of these tips to give your dish a punch of antioxidants.
- Ginger - Leave the marshmallows (and added sugar) out of your sweet potatoes; add a dash of ginger for a warm comforting flavor.
- Thyme- Thyme brings out the flavor of mushrooms. Saute 1 pound of mushrooms with 1 teaspoon of thyme and 1 tbsp of olive oil. It makes a great side dish or add them to wheat pasta.
- Cinnamon- Replace sugar in your morning coffee with ground cinnamon. Simply sprinkle ½ tsp over your ground coffee before brewing; most coffee shops even offer it as an option at the sugar and milk station.
- Rosemary- Add extra flavor to your veggies, leave out the added butter and salt and add ½ tsp to roasted carrots, parsnips, squash, or potatoes.
