On Friday, May 16, 2014 Bike McLean and The JBG Companies invite riders to join fellow commuters at Greenberry’s Coffee Shop in McLean for the first annual McLean Bike to Work Day Pit Stop.
There was an informal Pit Stop in McLean last year. Since then, the Chamber launched a new effort, “Bike McLean,” to install bike hitches in several locations across McLean, including Greenberry’s. Dennis Frew, a local bike advocate with Fairfax County Advocates for Better Bicycling (FABB) and resident of McLean, has been instrumental in these and other efforts to encourage safe and fun enjoyment of cycling in McLean.
Cyclists will join over 10,000 area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a safe, efficient and healthy way to get to work. Over seventy-five pit stops will host Bike to Work Day events throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Each pit stop will provide the first 14,000 pre-registered attendees with free t-shirts, and many will have chances to win bicycles and other great prizes. Even if someone does not plan to bike to the office, all cyclists are encouraged to register and ride their bike to Greenberry’s.
Last year’s Bike to Work Day broke the regional record with over 14,500 participants – the most since the event began in 2000. Registration opened on March 6th and riders are encouraged to sign-up early for the McLean pit stop location at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org.
